Circle Time

Circle time in my classroom looks a little like this:

1. ‘We’re here at school today’ song with musical instrument exploration

(to the tune of ‘farmer in the dell)

We’re here at school today

We’re here at school today

Hooray, we will learn and play

We’re here at school today.

2. ‘Hello’ song for each student – practice greetings with lamh actions

Hello _____, how are you?

Hello _____, how are you?

Hello _____, how are you?

How are you today?

Hello everyone, I’m alright

Hello everyone, I’m alright

Hello everyone, I’m alright

Thankyou very much

Below is the same song. The tune is the same, however, my lyrics are a little different. Great resource!

3. Attendence – find your photograph and put it on the ‘who’s at school today?’ board.

4. Weather song – with visuals.

(to the tune of ‘frere jacques’)

Whats the weather, whats the weather

like today, like today

Look outside the window, look outside the window

can you say, can you say?

Is it [cloudy], is it [cloudy]

out today? out today?

Look outside the window, look outside the window

can you say, can you say?

NO…..

(changes to the tune of ‘oh my darling’ when the correct weather has been identified)

It is [sunny], it is [sunny]

it is [sunny] out today.

It makes me happy when it is [sunny]

it is [sunny] out today.

5. Sensory story or nursery rhyme.

There are plenty more ideas and activities, that I will eventually work into my circle time. However, currently my kiddies are only able to sit and focus for 10 minutes, and this is on a good day.

More circle time activities and ideas:

  • Emotions and feelings – watch / sing a song about emotions. Each student chooses what emotion they are feeling today.
